Why this program

Organizations run on secure, scalable, cloud-connected Microsoft infrastructure. The people who can administer it, automate it and protect it are the ones who get hired and promoted.

This cohort teaches the work the way it is done in real organizations: the on-premises tools many companies still depend on, the cloud services they are moving to, and the security layer that ties them together.

  • IndividualsHelp desk and support staff moving into system administration, cloud or security roles, and career changers with some IT foundation.
    From CA$597
  • GroupsFive to fifty people learning together: a team, a community organization or a training partner.
    From CA$4,970
  • Small enterprisesYour IT staff trained on your schedule, with optional hands-on workshops on your own environment.
    From CA$297 per person

Two cohorts, nine modules

Every module includes a live demonstration, lab exercises, real enterprise use cases, troubleshooting practice and the admin habits that keep systems healthy. Take the cohorts in order, or join Cohort 2 directly if you already have the Cohort 1 skills.

Cohort 1: Identity and Endpoint

Seven Saturdays. The skills behind most help desk to system administrator jobs.

  1. Active Directory Administration

The identity foundation most organizations still run on.

    • Domains, forests, OUs and domain controllers
    • Users, groups and computer lifecycle
    • Group Policy design and troubleshooting
    • DNS and DHCP in a Windows domain
    • Delegation, tiered admin and recovery

Lab: build a domain, design an OU structure, apply policies and delegate password resets.

  2. PowerShell Scripting and Automation

The skill that runs through every other module.

    • Objects, the pipeline and discovering commands
    • Scripts, functions, parameters and error handling
    • Bulk administration in Active Directory
    • The Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK
    • Scheduling, logging and running scripts safely

Lab: a CSV-driven onboarding script that creates accounts, assigns groups and logs every step.

Identity in the cloud, and the link back to Active Directory.

    • Tenants, users, groups and dynamic groups
    • Hybrid identity and directory synchronization
    • Authentication methods and MFA
    • Conditional Access policy design
    • Guest access, sign-in logs and audit logs

Lab: roll out a Conditional Access policy safely, with report-only testing and a break-glass account.

    • Enrollment, including Windows Autopilot
    • Compliance policies and configuration profiles
    • App deployment and update rings
    • App protection for personal devices
    • Endpoint security policies and reporting

Lab: enroll a device, make it compliant, and tie compliance to Conditional Access.

  5. Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)

Managing Windows devices at scale from on-premises.

    • Sites, boundaries and client installation
    • Collections and targeting
    • Application deployment
    • Software updates and maintenance windows
    • Operating system deployment and co-management with Intune

Lab: deploy an application and a monthly update to a test collection.

Cohort 2: Microsoft 365 and Security

Six Saturdays, ending with a capstone project. Builds on Cohort 1.

  1. Microsoft Exchange Online

    Email administration for Microsoft 365.

    • Mailboxes, shared mailboxes, groups and resources
    • Mail flow, connectors and transport rules
    • SPF, DKIM and DMARC
    • Anti-spam and anti-malware basics
    • Message trace and migration approaches

Lab: set up a shared mailbox and a mail flow rule, then trace a message end to end.

Where an organization’s documents and collaboration live.

    • Site architecture: hub, team and communication sites
    • Permissions and sharing
    • External sharing controls
    • How Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive fit together
    • Retention, sensitivity labels and migration readiness

Lab: build a hub with connected sites, a clean permission model and an external sharing policy.

  3. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

Detecting and responding to threats on devices.

    • Onboarding devices through Intune, Group Policy or MECM
    • Attack surface reduction
    • Alerts, incidents and investigation
    • Device isolation and live response
    • Vulnerability management and Intune integration

Lab: onboard a virtual machine, trigger a safe test detection and investigate it.

Collecting security data and acting on it.

    • Workspaces and data connectors
    • KQL query fundamentals
    • Analytics rules and incidents
    • Workbooks and hunting
    • Automation rules, playbooks and cost awareness

Lab: connect sign-in logs, write a detection for repeated failed sign-ins, and automate the response.

Questions

Something else on your mind? Book a free 15-minute call.

Can I join Cohort 2 without Cohort 1?

Yes, if you are already comfortable with Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune and basic PowerShell. If you are not sure, book a free call and we will decide together.

Who is this for?

People with some IT background who want to work as system administrators, endpoint or cloud engineers, or security analysts. If you are completely new to IT, start with the self-paced IT Fundamentals and Help Desk courses first.

What do I need for the labs?

A computer that can run virtual machines (16 GB of memory is recommended) and a reliable internet connection. Several labs use free Microsoft trial environments; we walk you through setting them up in week 2 of each cohort.

When are the sessions?

Every Saturday, live online: seven Saturdays for Cohort 1 and six for Cohort 2. The start dates and session time are confirmed when you register.

Is the certificate a Microsoft certification?

No. You receive a certificate of completion from Okowil Solutions Inc. The program covers skills used in several Microsoft certification exams, but it is not an official Microsoft course and does not include an exam.

Where do learners connect between sessions?

On ImmigrantLight, the free community founded by Okowil Solutions Inc., where you can ask questions, share progress and connect with people working in Canadian IT. After you graduate, you also join the private Okowil alumni community.

How do I pay?

By Interac e-Transfer. A single cohort is paid in full; both cohorts can be paid in full or in three monthly instalments. Payment details are sent when your place is confirmed. Group and enterprise training is invoiced.

What if I need to cancel?

See the Refund Policy. Cohort places can be refunded in full up to 7 days before the first session.
